AOIT

Balboa High School Academy of Information Technology

AOIT is a two-year academy with technology and computer literacy fully across English, social studies, and technology classes.

Mission

The Balboa Academy of Information Technology seeks to prepare students to learn, utilize and adapt their technology skills to seamlessly meet the demanding and changing requirements of post-secondary education and employment opportunities.

Goals

Students will be able to:
  • Problem-solve using modern digital technology.

  • Perform basic to complex academic and technological tasks using a variety of information technologies.

  • Create a positive, “can do” attitude to match their success in learning these exciting skills, through individual and efficient collaborative group work.

Critical Components

E-Mentorship Program: Individuals from local technology in the San Francisco Bay Area will act as mentors in the Spring semester in our junior technology class. The mentors and students will communicate via internet and follow an interactive curriculum geared toward building technology skills, resume-writing, job-interview tactics, work place etiquette, etc.

Paid Summer Internship: Students who successfully complete the E-Mentorship Program will be eligible between the junior and senior year for a paid summer internship at a local technology firm, where they will gain valuable work-place experience, network with professionals, and gain valuable lessons and skills.

CCSF Technology Classes: Students will be required to take a technology class from an approved list at City College of San Francisco both Fall and Spring semesters of their senior year. Students will receive college credit for these cutting-edge technology classes and become acclimated to the college environment and real college professors, all at no cost to the students.

Field Trips: Students who complete the E-Mentorship Program will be eligible to attend field trips to local technology firms.

Digital Portfolio: Students will work with the Pearson Foundation’s Digital Storytelling Project to create a digital portfolio including video of the student answering standard job interview questions, a resume, and exemplary examples of the student’s work.
