Music Department Donates Funds Raised at Winter concert to New Orleans Music School
FROM: NOCCA INSTITUTE| RIVERFRONT
January 30, 2006
Mr. Paul Yonemura, Band Director
Mr. Jon Frank, Orchestra Director
Ms. Alison Gutierrez, Choir Director
Herbert Hoover Middle School, Music Department
2290 14th Avenue
San Francisco, CA 94116
Dear Paul, Jon, Alison and Music Students,
On behalf of the NOCCA Institute, the students and faculty of the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts at Riverfront, thank you so much for our gift of $2,770 to help in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
We were overwhelmed by receipt of your gift and letters today. The edication that your school and you have to music and to helping thers is truly inspiring. We could not have received your gift at a etter time! Just today, our music teachers asked for several needed nstruments and music students are just applying for aid to replace instruments they lost in the storm when their homes were flooded and ruined. Their music and other arts training have kept them moving forward.
Three weeks ago, students were able to return to their studies at NOCCA, Riverfront. The facility, however, sustainted moderate damage in the storm. While we are waiting for reconstruction of the building, our faculty is training students at 11 satellite sites across the region. We plan to be back in our NOCCA, Riverfront home May 30 for a special five-week intensive and celebratory session that will bring together current students with those who had enrolled before the storm but have been unable to return yet. It should be a very exciting time. We know the music students will look forward to all playing together again.
Perhaps one day our students, faculty or alumni could visit your school. Meanwhile, please accept our deepest appreciation for your efforts and generosity. Your support will help NOCCA, its students and the region’s culture return to vitality as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
Sally Perry
Executive Director
Elizabeth McMillan,
Director of Development
