Promptness to Class
We have noticed that too many students are late to class. This is affecting school climate, student learning and disrupting instruction. Starting the first day of Spring semester, JAN 21st, Hoover will focus on encouraging promptness to class. Students who are tardy will be warned and after the third tardy warning, will be assigned detention (after school or lunchtime detention under the supervision of counselors and teachers). We will be calling families of all students who are tardy and asking for their support in this effort.

Volunteers Needed
President Debi Skaggs
Hoover PTA is now looking for parents to be next school year's board. We need parents to attend the Board meetings from January until the end of the year so that there is a smooth transition into next year. These are very important times for Hoover, & for SFUSD in general, & I would like everyone to please take the time to start helping the teachers & staff at Hoover continue on with a valuable link for them.
The position that needs a parent, first & foremost, is for our Treasurer position. Diego Montoya can be reached at dilinc@hotmail.com. He will be gone next year, & has spent three years getting the books in perfect order. Someone can easily slip in & learn a lot from him now before his position ends.
Next is our President & Vice President positions. We need parents whose children are in 6th or 7th grade to please attend the Board meetings to shadow along with us for the rest of this very busy hump to the end of the year. Our meetings are regularly scheduled every second Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m. in the
main office.
Other positions that will be opening up for next school year is the secretary, PTA Membership chair, Hoover Happenings Editor, PTA Reflections chair, another VP position, Volunteer Coordinator, Communications chair, & Sweatshirt/T-Shirt chair. Almost all of the chair & board positions are occupied by 8th grade parents graduating out. There will be a huge number of vacancies & a huge undertaking to get everyone on board for next year. Please volunteer now to help us out!

Get Credits for Your Merits
Ms. Cunningham, Sponsor
The Merit Awards Program is a successful one at Hoover. Students earn merit award points for citizenship, scholarship and service to the school. It is a great way to build a positive community within a great school- ours!
Accumulated points are tallied up from 6-8th grades. Upon graduation, awards are placed with the diploma to make it an even more memorable day. Points will begin being collected at the end of each semester. Representative will be visiting classrooms soon to explain this great opportunity to their peers. On your merit, GO!
